History of sesame seeds

Sesame is the oldest known oilseed plant, with a history of at least 5,000 years of use by the Chinese. Although it was first discovered in Pakistan, it is now primarily cultivated throughout Central Asia and North Africa. Today, India, Myanmar, China, and Tanzania are the largest producers of sesame seeds. These seeds are used in various ways around the world.

There are three types of sesame seeds: golden or brown, white, and black. They can be used either hulled or unhulled, toasted or raw, depending on the intended use and personal preference. Sesame oil is one of the most well-known edible oils, commonly used in cooking as well as for hair and skin nourishment. It also has one of the highest oil contents among seeds.
